About The Films

A team of healing professionals and creative artists work collaboratively to create films about young people battling developmental and complex trauma. Our goal is to capture honest and real “critical moments” inside therapy. We then share our films with therapists across the globe, to help them advance their own clinical methods.

What’s unique about our films is how they take you inside the lives of kids and teens, while also revealing experienced therapists making difficult “critical choices” in treatment settings.

Since therapists rarely, if ever, get to observe their peers in actual treatment sessions due to client confidentiality, we selected skilled actors to portray young clients; who team with therapists to create real sessions drawn from actual cases. Our films are developed and produced by a team of Emmy winning filmmakers.

Led by Dr. Julian Ford at the University of Connecticut Health Center, the project has grown into a collection of therapy style films (Critical Moments); monologue films about kids in treatment nicknamed “Trauma Avengers” (Digital Diaries:Rx); interview films with therapistsfrom across the U.S. and Puerto Rico; and filmed round table discussions on today’s mental health.

Since 2016, we’ve created over 100 films about developmental trauma, mental health, and the resiliency of kids. This website allows you access to the work of our team.

Our Film Collection

Our powerful "Critical Moments" Therapy Films allow you to observe and learn from therapists as they work closely and openly with kids and teens in therapy. But our collection of films on mental health and young people has grown, and now includes…

Digital Diaries: Rx series: In this series of monologue style films, seven teens in treatment share what they’re experiencing between weekly therapy sessions. These cellphone diaries take us into the day-to-day lives of Joshua, Samantha, Rosa, James, Gabby, Isabella, and Jaime— teens from different cultural backgrounds and regions across the country.

Healing Powers is a new series which explores the involvement and process of creative artists and performers who work in collaboration with healing professionals. In Episode 1, hosted by Dr. Stephen Hydon and Dr. Michael Gomez, we learn about Dr. Ford’s film ideas, and how artists and actors are making a “healing difference” in today’s world.

ON STAGE / IN SESSION: Shakespeare’s Works on Mental Health features a collection of filmed scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, with a unique focus on characters dealing with PTSD, traumatic grief, and complex trauma. Hosted by Dr. Michael Gomez, you’ll meet four young actors who not only perform Shakespeare, but share their personal connection to their characters and the mental health challenges within The Bard’s plays.
